Today I am going to share a fun and little personal blog called 25 Things about me.
I got the idea reading someone else's blog last week in my 30 Day Blogging Challenge and thought hmmmm why not? Haven't done this before here on this blog site so...
1. Where were you born?
Utica, New York
2. Were you named after someone?
Yes, after my grandmother on my mother's side.
3. Are you single or married? If married, for how long?
I am married to Lynn Lingenfelter since 1999. So for 14 years this November.
4. Do you have children? If so, how many?
I have 2 awesome kids. A boy and a girl.
5. Favorite Hobby?
Most folks would probably think exercise but nope, READING is my favorite hobby.
6. Favorite Activity?
Weight training followed by rollerblading and I occasionally, like right after, running lol
7. What computer games do you play?
I don't play computer games.
8. Do you have pets?
Yes, we have a puppy and we feed about 5 wild cats in the neighborhood.
9. What is one thing you are really proud of accomplishing so far in your life?
Thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail. Until you do it, you have absolutely no idea how hard it is/was to finish. And time - 6 months hiking wearing the same clothes mostly and with very few showers lol
10.What is one place you haven't traveled to yet that you really want to go?
11.Do you believe in God and/or Jesus?
Yes I am a born again Christian or follower of Jesus Christ since 31 years of age
12. What do you do to relax?
Play/hang with my hubs and kids. Any exercise and reading.
13. Do you feel you have a mission in life?
Yes, at this time in my life I feel very strongly that I can help folks 'get and live healthy and fit, inside and out' just based on my own knowledge and experience living unhealthy and then healthy mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Still figuring out HOW or in what way I will accomplish that goal but working on it 🙂
14. How long have you been into health and fitness?
Since I met my husband, Lynn Lingenfelter, back in 1997. Before that I lived a very unhealthy and unfit life in ALL areas. I was 30 years old then.
15. What attracted you to your husband?
I thought and still think my husband was/is a remarkable man. A man who has been through incredible health obstacles and yet still chooses to continue to fight to live life and inspire others. Not always easy and not without lots of ups and downs but ...
16.What activities do you remember doing as a kid?
I was a swimmer and I played the clarinet till high school. I was def a tom boy till high school. Growing up with 4 Brothers will do that to you lol
17. Did you go to college? If so, did you graduate and if so, what was your major?
I did go and I did graduate. I have a BS in Psychology. I will tell you though, I thought then and a little now, that college can and is to some degree a waste of time unless you are going into a specialty area like being a Medical Doctor or .... I changed my major from Accounting to psychology my Senior year and I only have 6 credit hours (2 classes) and I will have a major in Accounting too. And NO I don't ever see me going back and finishing that. Sorry lol
18. What do you think is the one most necessary trait to get healthy and fit?
Persistence without a doubt. Most folks fail to get healthy and fit because they QUIT as soon as things get a little hard or uncomfortable which can really happen after just a week or two.
19. What is another 'something' you think is important to helping someone reach their goals?
I think most folks have to build their confidence to the point that they realize that they CAN DO HARD THINGS. Always folks say, 'but it is too hard' uhhuh and so, if you walk around thinking I can do hard things and then you start thinking 'this is hard' you will then start thinking 'that's OK because I can do hard things so bring it on'. RIGHT?
20.You post recipes every week so do you like to cook?
Ohhh this is a trick question. I will tell you I NEVER COOKED till I was in my mid 30's. Crazy I know but so true. Today as a 46 year old married mom I think I have finally made peace with the cooking lol NOW, I don't know if I will ever be a Gourmet cook but the basics I can do. And incredibly, I actually like finding new recipes that are EASY, healthy and taste great for me and my family to try.
Really never thought I would say or write that but it is what growing and becoming is all about. Just because you or me have never done something or never thought we would or could does not mean it can't be or it won't happen. Life is wide open to all of us if we get out of our own way and TRY NEW THINGS and get uncomfortable and maybe even a little scared. Yes, we are still alive so let's live like it.
21.What is one thing about being healthy and fit that you wish you had know when you were younger?
One thing that really rocked my boat when I first started to get into this health and fitness stuff was the knowledge that I really am what I eat and drink. I can still remember talking with Lynn, my hubs in our first apt together in downtown Orlando about food. I remember him clearly telling me, "Evey if you just eat healthy foods through out the day for a time period you will get smaller, lose body-fat and be healthier. Exercise both cardio and weight training is no where near as important as what you are eating all day."
I still remember this was like a light bulb moment to me. I just COULD NOT BELIEVE it was so simple. Especially because then and now exercise is what is MOSTLY PUSHED by programs.
Now I am not saying exercise does not have it's part because it does but the FOOD IS IT.
22. What is your favorite meal?
Lol Lasagna is my favorite meal. With bread and oil and if I was still drinking, then a glass of vino too. I'm into health and fitness but I LOVE PASTA AND BREAD too. I just don't have it too often nowadays.
23.What is your favorite healthy meal?
Baked or grilled chicken breasts, with brown rice or quinoa and mixed veggies or a greens salad.
24. What is your favorite dessert?
ANY CHOCOLATE SUGAR
25. Do you think there are age limits, health limits or any kind of limits to who can get healthy and fit?
NO, I do not. I think you can be old, overweight, unhealthy with serious health problems and you can turn it around. Not all diseases can be reversed liked most Type 2 Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and so on but again, we have to get out of our own heads and what we have been and what we have done in the past.
Most of the time it requires us to forget what has or has not worked in the past and take a leap of faith that the changes you are making in your daily life via foods you are eating and exercise you are doing is going to 'get you healthy and fit, inside and out'. And then LOTS OF TIME doing and learning what works for you within perimeters of what has worked for those before you.
In our Personal Training Studio we worked with teenagers all the way up to 80+ year olds. Worked with heart patients and all kinds of health problem peeps with all kinds of limitations and really anything is possible. Just step out of that old mindset and try new things. The only thing stopping most folks is there own stinkin' thinkin' about health and fitness and their ability to do it and have it.
Hope you enjoyed today's post with 25 Things About Me. Lots different from what I usually post. Be sure to share some things about yourself in comments below. I would love to hear from you.
